Long, soft or silky dog hair has a tendency to mat, i.e., form knotted clumps of hair that become larger and tighter as time goes by. Mats can be painful as snarled hair will tighten and begin to pull the skin. They can also be a breeding ground for bacteria, particularly if the coat is wet because air cannot circulate under the mat to dry the skin. It's important to regularly brush a dog's coat to keep mats from forming. When a dog with mats comes into The Wash Dog, our groomers will examine the coat and inform the owner of the procedure necessary to remove the mats. Our policy is: Mats which are too large, too tight or too close to the skin to be removed without causing pain, will be shaved out of the coat in order to prevent pain. Brushing out large, tight or close-to-the-skin mats can be a painful process and we do everything possible to make the grooming experience positive and pain-free for your dog.

"I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive."
"Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things - a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in the shaft of winter sunlight."
